At a glance
Journy is developed by Étienne (etienne2t). It combines an optional nutrition journal, workout notebook and timers. No account is required. There are no ads, tracking SDKs or third-party analytics in the app, and the developer does not run a server containing your journal. Some optional features contact external services as described below. Contact: support@etienne2t.com.
Information stored locally
Journy stores foods, recipes, favourites and portions, meals and their nutrition, goals and settings; workout routines, planned and completed sessions, variations, loads, bodyweight snapshots, repetitions, hold durations, RPE and muscle assignments; timer presets, recent timer history and effort totals. Health-derived values used for nutrition estimates, charts, widgets or workout load may also be cached or saved locally. Your journal is not automatically sent to the developer.
Optional Apple Health access
With your permission, the nutrition module reads active and resting energy, workouts, body mass, body-fat percentage and lean body mass. It reads recent history, including up to 30 previous days for expenditure estimates, and relevant readings for charts and weight-based goals. The notebook can read the latest applicable body mass for workout load calculations and save that value with the session. You can enter goals and bodyweight manually without Health access. Estimates and training volume are not medical measurements.
Writing nutrition to Health
If you grant write permission, saving a meal can create its energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate and other available nutrient samples in Apple Health. Editing or deleting that meal updates or removes records created by Journy, where it has the necessary access. Imports preserve source identifiers to avoid automatically duplicating nutrition previously written by another installation. Journy does not import another app’s nutrition records as editable Journy meals. Health data is not used for advertising, marketing profiles or data brokerage.
Your Health choices
You can manage or revoke permissions by category in Apple Health or iOS Settings. Missing readings can mean either unavailable data or withheld permission; iOS does not disclose the distinction for read access. Revoking access does not erase local snapshots or records already saved in Health. Delete those separately using the available app controls or Apple Health. Disabling a module hides its features without deleting its data or revoking permissions. Apple’s own Health synchronisation follows your Apple settings and is separate from Journy.
Food search and barcode scanning
Searching or scanning contacts Open Food Facts over the internet. The request includes your search terms or the product barcode and technical information needed for networking, such as an IP address and app user agent. Barcode lookup sends the recognised barcode, not a photo of your plate or your Health history. Open Food Facts operates independently and applies its own privacy policy. You can create foods manually instead. Product information is contributed by the community and may need correction.
Optional photo analysis with an external AI service
Photo analysis is a beta workflow you initiate. Camera or photo-library access lets you select a plate photo. Journy prepares a prompt containing instructions, the meal name and notes you enter. It does not silently upload the image or call an AI API. You choose whether to copy the prompt and share the photo through iOS with ChatGPT or another external service. That provider processes what you send under its own terms and privacy policy; see OpenAI’s privacy policy for ChatGPT. Your Health history is not included automatically. You paste the response back into Journy and review its suggested foods before saving. Avoid including people, identifying details or sensitive information you do not want to share. Analysis can be inaccurate and is not medical advice.
Local files, widgets and backups
Journy has no automatic account or journal cloud synchronisation. The nutrition database, workout journal and Health-derived widget caches are excluded from system backups. Deleting the app can therefore permanently remove these local records; they are not automatically restored on a new device. Other preferences or timer files may follow system backup settings. Exclusion does not remove older backups. The nutrition widget reads a local snapshot shared with the widget extension; iOS controls background refresh.
Manual nutrition export and import
You can explicitly export nutrition data to a file and choose its destination using iOS Files or sharing. The file may include meals, foods, goals and saved Health-derived values. A destination such as iCloud Drive, another cloud provider or a recipient will process that file according to its own practices. Protect exports as sensitive data and delete copies you no longer need. Import reads a file you choose. This feature does not export the workout notebook. The developer does not receive a copy automatically.
Timer audio
Timers render finite local audio containing cues and optional metronome ticks. Background playback allows audible cues with the screen locked and can mix with music. Journy does not record the microphone or send this audio to an external service. Calls or disconnected headphones pause playback; force-quitting stops it.
Retention, deletion and support
Local records remain until removed through available controls or the app and its data are deleted. Offloading preserves app data. Recent standalone timer history keeps ten starts; workout history and saved presets are separate. Remove exported files and Health records separately. If you contact support, your email address, message and attachments are processed to answer your request, not automatically linked to local journal data. Avoid unnecessary health information. Email providers and website hosting are described in the website privacy policy.
Questions, rights and changes
Contact support@etienne2t.com for privacy questions or requests concerning information you have sent to support. The developer cannot access, retrieve or remotely delete your local journal. Depending on your location you may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction or objection, and may complain to your data protection authority. This page is updated when Journy’s practices change; the date above identifies this version.
